Join Dr. Kristy Seymour for this talk exploring the use of circus to enhance the physical, social, and emotional well-being of autistic young people.

This talk will provide an insight into the ‘Circus Stars Method’ created by Dr Kristy Seymour. It aims to provide knowledge and education on autism and how autistic people experience the world. It will explore how circus can offer autistic people a way to develop their physical, social and emotional well-being.

  • How does autism present? And what are the most common challenges autistic circus students may face? 
  • What role does chaos and creativity play in enabling inclusion and a sense of belonging?

 

More about Kristy:

Dr. Kristy Seymour (she/her) is a scholar and professional circus artist, with over 20 years’ experience in the Australian contemporary circus sector. Her main research areas are autism and circus and Australian contemporary circus. Kristy has worked across various aspects of the circus sector as a performer, trainer, artistic director, general manager, and producer. She has also worked in the social circus sector since 2008, working with a diverse range of at-risk children and young people. Kristy’s speciality area is using circus to enhance the well-being of autistic young people. Her academic work utilizes concepts from Deleuze and Guattari, Agamben, Butler, Massey and Foucault. 

Kristy is currently extending her work in this area to develop inclusive programs in university systems in Australia for neurodivergent tertiary students.
